We’re looking for a Product Design / Development Engineer (Mechatronics) with strong electronics experience and aptitude to join the team at Inertia – a talented engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment where a diverse range of complex new products are designed, engineered and manufactured with quality and customer satisfaction always top of mind.

Who we are looking for

You have:

  • diploma or bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline (i.e. Mechatronics, Electrical/Computer, Mechanical) or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and optimizing electromechanical systems.
  • a proven ability to apply mechanical, electronics and software engineering fundamentals to successfully solve complex design challenges.
  • working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD.
  • experience with embedded firmware development in C, C++.
  • knowledge of electronic circuit design, tools and best practices.
  • ability to troubleshoot and debug electronics hardware using lab equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscope, signal analyzer, hardware debugger etc.
  • experience working hands-on with electronics and mechanical systems, including soldering, wiring, assembling, and testing these systems.
  • familiarity with version control tools such as Git.

Assets, not requirements:

  • experience with PCB design and schematic capture using Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCAD or similar.
  • ability to develop analytical models and perform data analysis, preferably with Python.
  • experience developing control systems with embedded or industrial solutions.
  • experience with data acquisition systems.
  • success planning and managing work in an agile project management environment.
  • a passion for robotics systems.

Responsibilities

As a Product Development Engineer (Mechatronics) reporting to a Product Development Team lead, you will:

  • leverage your diverse skills across multiple disciplines to design and engineer elegant and practical electromechanical solutions.
  • help plan, execute, and document the design, build, testing and prototyping of cutting-edge products.
  • use systematic research methods to draw out customer and end-user requirements.
  • collaborate with clients and lead them to sound design solutions.
  • collaborate with the Inertia team and vendors to ensure a seamless customer experience and deliver outstanding results.
  • develop and encourage strong peer relationships across various disciplines, functions, teams, and geographies.
  • use Inertia’s Business and Product Quality Management System to guide daily work.
  • identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • actively support and promote workplace health, safety and wellness.
  • perform other relevant duties as may be assigned.

Employment Type: Full Time

Primary Work Location: 34 Kern Road, Unit 3, Toronto, Ontario, Canada with some remote work flexibility. Must be legally permitted to work in Canada. International travel may be required.

Annual Salary: We are considering a range of experience levels – salary will be commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and local market conditions.
